When I wrote a review for the Tassimo single-cup brewer at the end of last year, it was only the beginning of my love affair with the machine. I’m still using it daily for my morning cup, my afternoon fix, and on really rough days, an evening jolt. The coffees are excellent, and coming from a person who previously only used whole bean coffee, that’s saying a lot. The packages are all vacuum sealed for freshness. My favorites are the Gevalia Skinny Cappuccino and the Seattle’s Best Breakfast Blend, but there are many other brands to choose from, including Starbucks®.
Now back to that cappuccino. This is one advantage the Tassimo has over other brewers: It will froth milk for lattes and cappuccinos. Just like the ones you order from your corner bistro, but much much cheaper.
The Tassimo I have was once called the Hot Beverage Machine, but is now called the Home Brewing System. I assume the reason for the change is the fact that now cold beverages can be enjoyed, like the Gevalia Sweet & Creamy Iced Coffee and the Gevalia Black Iced Coffee.
I couldn’t wait to try these out. The t-discs are used in the same way as with the other beverages I’ve enjoyed from Tassimo. First you fill a large mug with ice, and then insert and brew a coffee t-disc followed by the milk t-disc. Add your sweetener, and your iced cup of joe is ready for the tasting.
With the Gevalia Sweet & Creamy version, I did find that there was a slight artificial sweetener taste to the finished product. I’m not sure if it’s the sweetened coffee or the sweetened milk. It’s not perfect, but I still enjoy this drink. It’s been especially nice during this heat wave, when I need an afternoon pick-me-up but don’t feel like a hot beverage.
The Gevalia Black Iced Coffee is my favorite. First, the coffee itself is not sweetened. Secondly, it’s nice to have the freedom of enjoying your drink the way you want it. I personally like to add my own fat-free creamer and a little sugar.
The Tassimo Gevalia Sweet & Creamy t-discs are $9.99 and the Black Iced Coffee is $8.99. Each package provides 16 servings. I’m so happy to see that Tassimo is really working hard at thinking of ways to expand their product offering, and I look forward to seeing what else they come up with.
No compensation was received for this post, but I did receive the product discussed free of charge in order to facilitate my review. All of the opinions above are 100% my own.
yum yum yum....
