Dyson DC31 Handheld Vacuum - Review

Dyson is a world-famous brand of vacuums known for it's claims to never lose suction.  I'm sure you've seen the commercials, and heard rave reviews on their products.  I know I have.  There are no bags, belts or filters to change, giving you a maintenance-free product.  The DC31 is one of the two handheld models offered by Dyson

I've used this handheld machine for a few days now.   I've found it extremely helpful for spot cleaning, such as after Emma's mealtimes, and I love using it to vacuum dust and pet hair from our hardwood stairs.  They didn't get cleaned very often before I had the DC31, as it was very cumbersome trying to lug our heavy full-size upright up the stairs.

This model comes with a crevice tool as well as combinaton tool that can be used either with or without the brush.  There are additional extensions that can be purchased separately.  I wish there was a tool (I don't even see one available as an accessory) that could vacuum my carpeted stairs.

Weighing just 2.9 pounds, this vacuum is so easy to use.  It is completely ergonomic.  Just grasp the handle and pull the trigger, and you're off.  For a power boost, tap the high power button.  Warning: This may scare the heck out of your cats and cause them to hiss at you. This happened to me, and my cats are so not the hissing type!  Usually, they just run and hide.

The DC31 is cordless, making it completely portable and versatile, so I can use it anywhere.  It charges quickly and easily. The battery is ENERGY STAR® qualified, which I've seen proof of because it's been running for a few days on just one charge.  The other feature I love is the quick empty feature, cleaning the machine without getting your hands dirty and spilling all of the dust.

When you buy a Dyson, you also get little booklet entitled, The History of Dyson.  It's a quick synopsis of how the products came to be, and where the company is headed.  I was very interested to read about James Dyson and his work to incorporate cyclone technology into the vacuum machine.  It's quite a story!

The Dyson DC31 sells for $219.99 and includes free shipping.  It's pricey for a handheld vacuum, however I'd rather buy one vacuum that will last for years rather than a new one every year.  So I say, BUY IT!  You definitely won't regret it.

No Compensation was received for this post.  Dyson sent me the DC31 in order to facilitate my candid review.  All of the opinions above are 100% my own.

  2. I would love one of these, but at that price--not going to happen!! Surprising there's not an attachment for doing carpeted stairs, as I would think that would be a big advantage to this little wonder.
