Blogging at a family’s expense

family You might have noticed that I haven’t been posting as frequently here on the blog as I normally do.  Other than the fact that I’ve been battling colds and viruses, I noticed that it was taking away from time I could be spending with my family.  During the day, I found myself ignoring my daughter at times or brushing her off when she wanted me to play with her, and at night when she went to bed I’d run right to the computer instead of hanging out with my husband.  That’s just not right, and I came to realize that my behavior was inappropriate.

Family should always come first, and shame on me for losing sight of that.  I will continue to bring great reviews and giveaways to the blog and try to remain as active I can because I absolutely love to do it.  But there needs to be a much better balance between my personal relationships and responsibilities and this blog.   It’s something I continue to struggle with.  I suppose this is how working moms feel.  We want to do it all, and that in itself is no easy task.

Question:  How do you find a balance between your hobby/work and your personal life?

Or, do you also struggle with this? (misery loves company)

  1. I know how you feel. I love blogging but sometimes find myself not being mommy.. it's hard to find balance. I look forward to reading how others balance.

  2. I have been struggling with this issue myself lately and blogging a lot less for the same reason. I've decided that it's OK if I don't post a deal right away and I basically do my blogging before or after my kids wake up. I also take advantage of my Facebook page to post a quickie link to deals that I might not have time to do a full blog post on.

  3. I don't. When I am at work I feel there are things I should be doing at home. When I have to stay home I feel bad for neglecting work. If I don't pick up the kids before 4pm I have guilt.
If someone knows the secret - let me know.
As far as blogging I wrote a couple of things this weekend during nap time and just scheduled them to post. That was nice.

This is a great idea! It's really hard to find a balance. Nap times seem to be my refuge, but then laundry and the other household chores seem to go by the wayside.

I don't know-- but I know what you mean! =)

  5. Thanks for making this post. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in this situation. I got my hubby on board with blogging by having him secure some reviews for dirtbike and guy type stuff.

  6. I try to write up a bunch of reviews/giveaways and even sometimes blog posts and then I post date them so that I'm not actually posting every day, however I do go in every day and try to stay caught up on emails when I can. This does take time, and I sometimes feel bad for spending so much time doing it. I do try to do it when the kids are at school or in bed at night though. I have been lucky in the fact that my youngest naps while the older boys are in school. I probably should be doing housework, but try to get caught up on the blog first. Oops!
I hope you are able to find that balance you are looking for.

  7. It's really hard for me to find a balance. After work, I just want to come home, relax, and get on the computer, but my son wants to play. I've found myself ignoring him as well, and I feel so bad about it. So, I always make it a point to spend time with him as soon as I get home from work. When the weather is nice, we go for a walk, go to the park, or I'll take him for a bike ride. I try to find something to do with him each day even if it's just sitting around watching a movie. I usually blog and coupon after he goes to sleep.

My husband and I have different days off. His days alternate so whenever he's off, I stay off the computer as much as possible. It's funny though because prior to couponing and blogging, I was rarely online. It was actually the other way around. My husband used to be online ALL THE TIME. I hated it. I guess that's why I stay off as much as possible when he's home because I know how he feels.
