Verizon Palm Pre Plus - Getting It Was Half the Battle (P1)

Let me start off by saying that I am a loyal Verizon Wireless customer.  Their cellular service can't be beat.  Very rarely does a call get dropped and I always have a crystal clear signal.  Reliability is extremely important when it comes to cell phone service, which is why I've continued to be a Verizon customer for so many years.

But I have to be 100% honest with you.  Their customer service needs some improvement.  In preparation for this series of reviews on the Palm Pre Plus, I contacted Verizon customer service as well as my local store on several occasions and was provided with incorrect information with regards to my upgrade.  It's been a frustrating process, let me tell you.

Last night I finally picked up my new Palm Pre Plus, after spending 2 1/2 hours in the store with the sales personnel, trying to figure out why the phone would not link to my email accounts.  After the first few hours, the sales staff was dumbfounded, and they had me call Palm directly.  The Palm Pre Plus comes with 90 days of Palm support which is really nice.  The person on the other line had me use the phone to access my email on the web first, and then the phone was able to link to my email accounts.  I'm surprised that the Verizon sales staff did not know this, and if this was purely a personal phone buying experience, I probably would have asked for my money back and left the store after the first frustrating hour.  However, I stuck it out and left after 2 1/2 hours, exhausted and with a pounding headache.

Now is the fun part, exploring the features of my new phone.  Understand that I'm going from a little tiny Samsung Juke to the Palm Pre Plus - so bear with me.  I'm new to the smart phone, and I've got a lot of learning to do.  I will get there, eventually.

The first thing I noticed about the Palm Pre Plus is its sleek design.  It's different from many other phones on the market.  It's much more feminine, with rounded corners and the compact design literally fits into my palm.
The Palm Pre Plus.  Isn't she pretty?

The Palm Pre Plus employs touchscreen technology, and so far I've learned how to gesture back, up, and pinching the screen to zoom in and out.  I've successfully linked my yahoo accounts and my facebook profile.  It's a little overwhelming at first for a newbie like me, but I think with some practice, I can master this phone.  It has so many great features that I look forward to discovering.  I'll be sharing my learning experience with you, all of the ups and downs.   I can already tell this is going to be fun, and quite addicting. :)

No compensation was received for this post.  I did receive a Palm Pre Plus 3G smartphone and one month of service from Verizon, to facilitate my candid review.  I hope you find it to be helpful.

  1. How exciting! I'll be watching to see how this works out for you. I've never had a fancy phone like that (mainly because I'm too cheap to pay for it). I've tried using my friends blackberry to check email and it drove me crazy---couldn't figure it out. Maybe it is just a practice issue. I think I'm getting to the point where I want to upgrade to a phone I can check my email.

  2. I have Verizon too,(both home and wireless) and you're right - the coverage and quality of calls can't be beat. I've used other carriers because of work, etc., and can vouch for Verizon over AT&T (them being among the others I've tried). And I do have to agree with you on the customer service also. (sigh)
I currently have a blackberry, and honestly, I'm not impressed. (BB Curve) I keep waiting for Verizon to get the I-Phone, but maybe I'll go with the really switfy-neato droid.... another sigh.... LOL
